Riley’s First Easter Adventure

This past Easter weekend we packed up the whole house and went on a mini family vacation. First stop was Camden, South Carolina for the Carolina Cup. My family has gone to this horse race for over 50 years. It is a great way for us to kickoff Spring and enjoy each others company. The next stop was the beach to soak up some sun with Matt’s parents. They have a house in Prince George, South Carolina. We went to Brookgreen Gardens on Easter and enjoyed a day on the beach. Riley was 7 weeks old and did great in the car and at every stop. She is an expert traveler nowadays. We can’t wait for more adventures with our little lady!! XO

Vegan Recipe

Matt made this delicious recipe the other night and it was SO good! Since having Riley I have cut out dairy in hopes to clear up some of that gas…! Babies are REALLY gassy! Who knew!? So Matt and I have been looking for yummy, vegan recipes that taste good and that are healthy. I also cut out soy, beans and onions so being vegetarian is taking some creativity!

Welcome to the World

Our lives changed for the better on February 8, 2013. Riley Ozette Faircloth was born naturally (without medication) at CMC Main in Charlotte, NC. The delivery went very smooth thanks to my wonderful husband Matt, our doula Alex, our Midwife Kathy and the wonderful nurses at the hospital. She is 6 weeks and 3 days old today and has started to smile and socialize a lot! The first 6 weeks were an adjustment for everyone involved but I am happy to report that even our cats have adjusted and are actually better cats than before! Our cat Niles (who we thought would claw her eyes out) has turned out to be a very maternal, loving older brother. He checks on her when she cries and sleeps in her nursery. My heart melts…

The name Riley came about when Matt and I made our lists of baby names. It was the only one we had in common! The name Ozette is Native American and is a beautiful place in Washington State. We camped at Ozette Lake and hiked on the Ozette Triangle Trail where Matt saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time. It is a magical area.

Stay tuned for lots of posts about life with child. I want to document everything we do together as a family. We are now a happy family of 5…;)

Baby Girl’s Nursery

The nursery is finally complete (for now)! Matt and I have been working really hard to get ready for this baby girl. I have heard for months that I would start to “nest” and want to get things ready. Well, it happened! I have been like a mama bird getting ready to lay her eggs. It has been so satisfying to check things off of my to-do list (with Matt’s help:).

These are a few detail shots of the finished room. With our due date tomorrow (!!!) I can’t help but imagine her in there. We can’t wait to meet our sweet angel…

Mixed Tape Monday – Crosby, Stills and Nash

I heard Helplessly Hoping by Crosby, Stills and Nash the other day and was reminded how much I love this band (I do love them with Neil Young too!). The chorus reminded me of the great journey that Matt and I have been on together over the past 11 years. – “They are one person, they are two alone. They are three together. They are for each other.”

I am so excited for this new chapter in our lives. I love Matt so much.

Hope your day is full with love. Happy Monday:)
